NOTARIKON
Tha Letters Unfold
Notarikon is an exegetical method of Torah interpretation, counted among the 32 hermeneutic rules of Rabbi Eliezer son of Rabbi Yose HaGelili, in which each letter of a word is expanded to form a new phrase, concept or acronym. It is a mystical and linguistic key that reveals hidden layers of meaning, connecting history, spiritual frameworks and divine principles woven into the text. ⚡
How it works
- Pick a word card. Hebrew reads right to left.
- Tap, hover or focus a letter (Tab, then arrow keys). It lights up and unfolds into the word it stands for.
- Unfold every letter and the Meaning panel opens. Some words hold more than one reading: switch between them.
- Then test yourself in Try it.
The Talmud itself grounds the method in the Torah (Shabbat 105a), reading “Anochi” as a sentence hidden in one word. Read Shabbat 105a on Sefaria ↗
