Party People, LEHGO! Vayeira opens with ה׳ appearing to Avraham, who is sitting at the doorway of his tent in the heat of the day (Bereshit 18:1), and it ends on Mount Moriah. This week's frequency is all about the open tent and the standing heart. Let's TURN UP. 🔥

1. ⚡ Parasha Core Insights + VTC Frequency

Insight 1: The Open Tent (Chesed)

Avraham runs to three strangers in the desert heat and gives them everything. Rabbi Trugman teaches that Avraham and Sarah were always, in a sense, "in the tent": the ohel is the place where we invite the Divine to dwell in this world, and their open tent was where they taught the world about the One. Rav Yitzchak Ginsburgh reads Avraham's eshel (Bereshit 21:33) as the acronym for what a guest needs: Achilah (food), Shtiyah (drink), and Linah or Levayah (lodging or escort). For Avraham, hospitality was the way he spread awareness of the One.

VTC Frequency application (somatic chesed): Open your chest like a tent flap. Roll your shoulders back, palms forward, and take 4 slow breaths into the heart space. Then run toward one person this week: one meal, one drink, one walk-you-to-your-car. Love in motion. That's L.I.T.

Insight 2: Standing in Prayer for the World

Avraham stands up and pleads for Sodom, the first recorded prayer in the Torah. The next morning he rises early "to the place where he had stood before ה׳" (Bereshit 19:27). The Sages learn from this that standing means prayer and that Avraham instituted Shacharit, the morning prayer (Berakhot 26b).

VTC Frequency application (standing kavanah): Each morning, plant your feet, stack your spine, and stand for 60 seconds holding one person or place that needs light. Don't fix it, just hold it. Avraham kept showing up to his "place." So do we.

2. ⚡ Rabbi Trugman's Frequency (Ohr Chadash)

Living With The Times, Vayeira week. In "Current Situation in Israel - Being a Light to the Nations" (posted October 31, 2023), Rabbi Avraham Arieh Trugman ties this parasha to that moment in Israel. ה׳ asks, "Shall I hide from Avraham what I am about to do?" because the newly named Avraham, av hamon goyim ("father of many nations"), carries responsibility for the whole world. His bargaining for Sodom is a language of prayer. And even though Sodom fell, Lot was saved, and from Lot comes Ruth, from Ruth comes David, and from David the line of Mashiach. Rabbi Trugman links this to Yeshayahu's call to be or goyim, "a light to the nations" (Yeshayahu 42:6).

The follow-up, "Faith and Sacrifice" (posted November 5, 2023), covers the Akeidah. The verse says to offer Yitzchak up, never to slaughter him. Of Avraham's ten tests, this is the only one the text explicitly calls a test: would he offer up what was most precious to him? Afterward Avraham asks ה׳ to remember this day with compassion for his children.

From the Ohr Chadash library: In "The Prayers of Heshvan and Abraham's Prayer for Sodom," Rabbi Trugman, drawing on Rabbi Shlomo Carlebach, teaches that Vayeira always falls in the middle of Cheshvan. Cheshvan is the month with no holidays, the "bitter" Mar Cheshvan that we can flip into Ram ("exalted") Cheshvan. "Returned to his place" (18:33) can be read as Avraham going back to his stance and continuing to pray after his prayer seemed unanswered. Rabbi Trugman calls that faith that nothing is beyond repair "the very energy of Mashiach."

VTC Frequency application: Cheshvan is when the post-holiday glow either fades or gets embodied. Keep one Tishrei practice alive this week. Turn bitter into exalted: Mar → Ram. ⚡

3. ⚡ This Week in Time (14–20 Cheshvan 5787 / Oct 25–31, 2026)

Hebrew dates begin at sundown the evening before.

• 15 Cheshvan (Mon, Oct 26): Yahrzeit of the Chazon Ish, Rabbi Avraham Yeshaya Karelitz (passed 5714 / 1953, buried in Bnei Brak).
• 17 Cheshvan (Wed, Oct 28): The Mabul begins. "In the second month, on the seventeenth day of the month… all the fountains of the great deep burst open, and the windows of the heavens were opened" (Bereshit 7:11). Which month counts as "second" depends on a dispute: Rabbi Eliezer counts from Tishrei, so it's Marcheshvan, and Rabbi Yehoshua counts from Nissan, so it's Iyar (Rosh Hashanah 11b, cited by Rashi on 7:11). The Gemara rules that the Sages count the flood according to Rabbi Eliezer (Rosh Hashanah 12a), which puts the start of the flood this week.
• 20 Cheshvan (Shabbat Vayeira, Oct 31): Birthday of the Rebbe Rashab, Rabbi Sholom DovBer Schneersohn, fifth Lubavitcher Rebbe (born 5621 / 1860).

VTC Frequency: Noach's world drowned in a flood. Avraham's world is held up by one open tent. Fountains from above and below opened in judgment, and now we open the fountains of the heart in chesed. 🌊➡️💧

4. ⚡ Atbash Parasha Mirror: Vayeira ↔ Nitzavim

The concept (an original VTC idea from phEEnix): Atbash (אתב״ש) is the classic Hebrew letter-mirror: the first letter pairs with the last, the second with the second-to-last (א↔ת, ב↔ש, and so on). The Tanakh itself uses it: "Sheshach" in Yirmeyahu 25:26 is the Atbash cipher for Bavel. phEEnix applies that mirror to the 54 parashot of the yearly cycle, pairing first with last: Bereshit ↔ V'zot HaBerachah (1↔54), Noach ↔ Haazinu (2↔53), Lech Lecha ↔ Vayelech (3↔52), Vayeira ↔ Nitzavim (4↔51). Every pair adds up to 55. The beginning and the end reflect each other.

Mirror links

• Standing ↔ Standing. Avraham "stood before ה׳" (Bereshit 19:27), and that standing is prayer (Berakhot 26b). Nitzavim opens "You are standing today, all of you, before Hashem your God" (Devarim 29:9). In his Living With The Times episode "Nitzavim - Standing Before God," Rabbi Trugman connects that standing to the Amidah (the "standing prayer") and to ה׳'s charge to Avraham, "walk before Me and be wholehearted" (Bereshit 17:1).
• The Covenant with Avraham. Nitzavim's covenant is made "as He swore to your fathers, to Avraham, to Yitzchak, and to Yaakov" (Devarim 29:12). Vayeira is where those fathers' story becomes concrete: Yitzchak is born and bound.
• Sodom ↔ Sodom. Nitzavim warns of a land "like the overthrow of Sodom and Gomorrah, Admah and Zeboiim" (Devarim 29:22), the very destruction Avraham prayed to stop in Vayeira (Bereshit 19:24–25).
• Choose Life ↔ Yitzchak Lives. "I have set before you life and death… choose life" (Devarim 30:19). On Moriah, Avraham's willingness ends with life: Yitzchak walks down the mountain. The place is named Hashem Yireh, "ה׳ will see" (Bereshit 22:14).
• "Today" ↔ Every Day. Rabbi Trugman's "Nitzavim - The Secret of Today Being Every Day" teaches that hayom means we should see ourselves standing before ה׳ every day. Avraham rising early was that same daily stance.
